Having scorpions inside of your home is frustrating and it often seems like you can't keep the pesky little critters outside of your home. Scorpions can be really frightening and certain types of them are also really dangerous. If you have had scorpions inside of your home before, we have some tips for you to consider and check to try and keep the scorpions away from the house. We also have some good tips for you to implement inside of your home that can keep them away from you and not put your in a place to be stung.
Cleanliness Scorpions like to have places to hide. A scorpions route to your house almost always starts in the yard. In fact, a messy yard is probably drawing more scorpions to your house. We would suggest that you declutter your backyard. Some examples of things that will need to be decluttered include wood piles, kids toys, and patio furniture areas. Anywhere that a scorpion could easily hide itself without your seeing it needs to be eliminated. If you have patio furniture it is a good idea to place the cushions in a tote when you are not sitting in them. If you can hide the cushions, scorpions will not want to hide there. If you have a wood pile, make sure it is not near the entrances of your home. A wood pile should be kept somewhere dry, but you also want it to be far from any windows and doors. There is a very good chance that wood piles are going to draw scorpions to your yard. Another great tip is to clean up your kids toys. You do not want your kids to be put at risk of a scorpion sting because their toys were left out in the yard. Encourage your children to always put their toys away so they are not left out to be found by dangerous scorpions. Keeping toys inside of your garage will definitely help keep them away. Home Tips Once you have done everything you can to keep scorpions from wanting to live inside of your home, you can tackle any possible instances where a scorpion may end up somewhere like your bed. Something you should know about scorpions is that there is no way for them to climb slick surfaces. However, the surface has to be as slick as glass. Things like cardboard give them enough traction to climb, we would suggest you use things like glass bottles and plexiglass sheets. Many moms are worried about dangerous scorpions climbing into their children’s beds with them at night. Here are some good tips that we have for you! First of all, you can place the legs of your kids bed in mason jars. The scorpions are not able to climb the glass to get onto your kids beds. Another thing you need to pay attention to is bedding touching the floor. You want to be sure that your kids bedding is always kept up off the flooring. You can also pull your kids beds back from the walls so that scorpions can not climb the walls and fall onto your kids beds. If you do have a problem with scorpions you can hang a sheet of plexiglass that is longer and more wide than your child’s beds from the ceiling. You need to hang the sheet a few inches from the ceiling above the bed. If the scorpion is on the ceiling above your bed and falls, it will land on the plexiglass. Because the surface is slick, the scorpion will not be able to climb around onto the bottom of the glass and fall onto the bed. If anything, they will fall off of the sheet and onto the floor. Protecting your home and kids from scorpions can be a big job, but you will be glad that you did so. Make sure your yard is well kept, and take any precautions inside of your home that you feel are necessary to protect your family.
